I have always been fascinated with the properties, texture, and grain patterns of wood. Physically and visually I clearly see the creative power of God in this magnificent material. In all of my designs I try to allow the material to dictate how it will be used by maximizing the visual impact and honoring its natural properties.

Wood is a "hydroscopic" material, meaning it absorbs and gives off moisture even after it has been a piece of furniture for hundreds of years.  Kinda like a sponge.  With this in mind great care is taken when deciding on joinery methods, types of glues and finishes, and grain direction and orientation.  The idea is to build pieces that will stand the test of time and not self destruct in 15 to 20 years.  This is very time consuming and expensive compared to the mass produced items many of us have experience with.

Whenever possible I try to use non-toxic finishes that are extremely durable and user friendly.  (I make my own bees wax and mineral oil finish for all my children's toys, although not the most durable finish)  Recently hard wax/oil finishes have become my favorites.

My shop is located in Proctor in the basement of my home. I call the business Gloriam Deo Fine Woodworking.  This name expresses what drives my purpose in life.  Gloriam Deo Fine Woodworking is founded on the principle that we exist by and for the Glory of God. The name was selected as a constant reminder to keep our eyes and hearts focused on this God given purpose.  "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the Glory of God."  1 Corinthians 10:31
