About The Brandon Artists' Guild
A town as small as Brandon had never undertaken an arts project so large but the enthusiasm of the Guild members was contagious and soon the entire community was involved. Forty fiberglass pigs were brought to town and decorated by Guild artists, talented town members and students from our eight area schools. Unveiled and paraded on the Memorial Day weekend, the pigs soon could be seen on display throughout the village and were auctioned on an October weekend. The event attracted thousands of visitors and, as the first event of its kind in Vermont, established Brandon as one of the most exciting places to experience art and artists in the state – if not the entire Northeast. With the funds generated from this spectacular event, the Brandon Artists Guild was able to purchase and renovate their gallery space, all the while adding to its membership up to its present status as an essential stop for anyone visiting Vermont’s galleries.
The pig project was followed by annual community-wide art projects whose subject was next birdhouses, then rocking chairs, then artist palettes, then Cats and Dogs, then " Thinking Outside the Box,” and now "Starring Brandon."
The local schools are involved in all of these activities and some of the funds raised go directly to these young artists. As a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to supporting the visual arts and artists through exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations and educational programs, the Guild has particularly backed the arts programs in the local schools and in after-school programs.
