In the gallery: A Space Within, contemporary ceramics by Dasha Kalisz

This fall, the Brandon Artists Guild is pleased to present A Space Within, an exhibit of work by artist-member Dasha Kalisz.

“My latest sculptures explore the spaces between human biology and mechanical mechanisms,” Kalisz explains. This new “body” of work is a result of her investigation into the function and dysfunction of the lungs, which began a year ago when her father passed away from chronic lung disease. She finds the emotional center of these sculptural pieces by combining wheel-thrown forms with traditional and nontraditional surface methods, often assembling her ceramic vessels with found objects. The Lung series breathes new life into ceramic sculpture in a style that is whimsical, clinical – and topical.

Traditional vases and bottles will also be on display. “I want the viewer to see how functional pottery shapes can be transformed into sculpture.” says Kalisz.

The public is invited to meet the artist at an opening reception on Friday, September 4 from 5PM to 8PM. Free and open to all. Covid protocols will be followed.

A Space Within will be at the Brandon Artists Guild Gallery from August 28 through November 1.
