Edith Beatty
Edith Beatty is a Vermont artist who works in encaustic, oil, fresco, and fiber, with earthy materials: wood, beeswax, damar resin, marble dust, pit lime, sand, coffee, shells, paper pulp, oils, and natural pigments. Her work has shown in juried and curated shows in Seattle, New York City, Cambridge, Provincetown, and here in Vermont.
Earlier this summer, she enjoyed a solo show at Axel’s Gallery in Waterbury Vermont, currently has work in the Atlantic Gallery in NYC, and later this year, will participate in shows in Stowe and Manchester, VT, and in Chicago.
Beatty has lived in Waterbury, Vermont for 42 years. Having earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Indiana University, she enjoyed an extensive career designing and leading programs to promote social justice and equity.
She has since shifted her focus to making works of art that convey that same struggle and hope. Recent works examine both the devastation of our precious earth, and the herculean efforts to save it. She explores the turbulent times in which we find ourselves, at home and abroad, as well as the counterbalance of community response and vigilance.
