October Artist of the Month: Wenda Curtis - Reception Artist Talk

Born the daughter of an art teacher and a music teacher in Rutland, Vermont, I was given an early appreciation of the arts. School was serious fun and time home was filled with music, hand crafts and sports. My brothers and I were encouraged to play with knives.

September Artist of the Month: Guy Rossi - Reception Artist Talk

I have always been fascinated with the properties, texture, and grain patterns of wood. Physically and visually I clearly see the creative power of God in this magnificent material. In all my designs I try to allow the material to dictate how it will be used by maximizing the visual impact and honoring its natural properties.

Painting is meditative and peaceful, and it offers me time to closely explore the beauty in the living world.  As an avid nature lover, I often draw inspiration from my bucolic surroundings rich with plants, bugs, and animals.

July Artist of the Month: Beth Murphy - Reception Artist Talk

No matter how “otherworldly” a work of art strikes one, we know it to have been made by a human being operating through their unique thoughts, emotions, instincts, and experiences.  Professional and life practices have led to my fascination with these motivators and inspirations. Creating art is one way these gifts are translated via an artist’s chosen medium.

June Artist of the Month: Jennie Johannesen - Reception Artist Talk

The inspiration for my art goes back to my childhood kitchen table where my Dad and I sat counting and identifying birds as they came to our feeders. With pastels, I seek to honor that precious memory and bring to life the birds I have seen throughout the years. Every bird I paint is a bird I have seen in the wild.

Spring Open Studio Weekend

Open Studio Weekend - Vermont Crafts Council

Presented by the Vermont Crafts Council, artists all over the State open their work spaces to share their talents, tools, and inspirations. Whether in small towns or at the ends of back roads, studios are interesting places to visit because they reflect the dynamic yet organized process used to design and produce a finished work of art.

Small galleries, and art centers that take part in this event, show a unique collection of hand made and local artwork, including special events and exhibits.

There are lots of resources for planning your tour. To see all artist sites and read more about OSW, you will find maps with suggested driving loops and directions on Vermont Crafts Council website here.

You can also find maps at the Brandon Artists Guild, and at any artist studio.

November Artist of the Month: Judy Knope - Reception Artist Talk

For me, photography is the only way to capture a moment. By combining light and emotion I hope to create something pleasing to the viewer. My aim is to go beyond the familiar “big picture” landscape approach to show a different side of everyday objects.

Artist of the Month: Muffy Kashkin Grollier

We will be celebrating exhibiting member, Muffy Kashkin Grollier, with an exhibition of her needle-felt work. Just like Summer, Muffy’s work is sunny and fanciful.

Muffy’s work in sheep wool is rich with color and uniqueness. Her understanding of the physical qualities of wool fiber and what it can do is inspiring

“I like the textural feel of fiber; it’s like the living spirit of the sheep is in the fiber and helps to bring the painting alive.”

Muffy attended the University of Hartford Art School and Massachusetts College of Art, and continued her artistic studies independently. She’s taken many classes and workshops with a variety of artists studying felting, pastels, watercolors, doll-making and mixed media art. Her work can be found at Brandon Artists Guild and in her home studio in Orwell, Vermont.

Muffy’s artist of the month reception will be Friday, July 21, 2023, from 7-8:30 pm. The public is welcome to come and visit with Muffy as she talks about her work. Please join us.
