The dance between transparency and opacity is what attracts me to encaustic painting. …the lovely way in which multiple layers of molten pigmented wax, each fused in the process, conceal and reveal images, colors, and textures beneath. 

In painting, I try to achieve an opaque genesis to the work, while building layer upon layer of emerging and receding translucent gestures and images. Some remain visible while others virtually disappear, leaving behind only the tiny ghosts of their past existence. I work in my studio in Waterbury Center, Vermont, teach encaustic painting, and have recently shown my work in New York City, Chicago, Cambridge, Cape Cod, and here in Vermont.
