Most often asked question: Why a bicycle in every piece?

In 2006, I added a simple bike to a barn piece and suddenly, someone lived there, someone loved this place!

It has now become the "human element" in each piece and an important part of my signature. 

Raised on a farm and sewing almost since birth,

                              I have spent a lifetime wrapped in Thread. 

A ‘life-taught’ artist, I have explored every avenue of the fabric/fiber media to arrive at the whimsical style that I delight in today.  My bucolic background is the foundation for my love of agricultural and barn-structure themes, and the catawampus nature of my fabric designs means that I am not required to answer to reality, which is a very liberating and intriguing creative tool. I simply cannot make a mistake. 

My journey truly began at my grandmother’s knee when she sat me down in front of her old Singer Sewing machine at the age of 6 to make clothes for my dolls. After 10 years involved in excellent 4-H programs, I could tailor men’s suits. The precision required for this work was the foundation for the accuracy I demand of myself today.  

Although I have explored and been highly influenced by many other artistic media, I always come back to Cloth.  I revel in the countless variety in color, texture, and pattern from which there are infinite possibilities for exploration. The fabric and thread become my paint, and the sewing machine my brush.

Through the years, my artwork has been exhibited and ribboned in numerous national and international exhibitions as well as in galleries, museums, and government offices. Images of my artworks have appeared in books, magazine articles, on television and in film.   I have performed with a children’s TV program puppeteering my warm-hearted bears, designed for a Vermont Rug company, and enjoyed sharing my inspirations by giving classes and lecturers. It has all been one grand adventure!
